Healthy Protein. Healthy Planet

We like to look at things differently

At Quorn® we like to look at things differently. We know that the growing global population needs a sustainable diet that is also healthy. That's why we take a different approach when it comes to protein production, choosing to use mycoprotein, a nutritious protein source, that is a source of fibre, in all Quorn products. At Quorn our aim is to inspire people to eat healthy food with delicious and irresistible recipes, packed full of flavour and bursting with new taste experiences from around the world. Our mission is to produce Healthy Protein for a Healthy planet.

Sustainability Calculator

It might surprise you how much of an impact going meat free can have on our planet and your health. It’s not just the amount of calories and saturated fat you’ll save, but your carbon footprint too.

Use our sustainability calculator to calculate the impact of going meat free.

Healthy Planet

Meat reduction

Two of the biggest issues facing the world today are the growing health problems related to obesity, and the threat of climate change. It is now well established that excessive meat consumption and its intensive production are significant contributors to this situation. We want to help consumers in developed countries find ways to reduce meat consumption by 50% by 2050, in line with scientific evidence from experts (IPCC/WRI).

Packaging for the planet

We are working even harder to make sure our packaging can be recycled and turned into something else, and we're also cutting the amount of packaging we use. There's a bit more work to do, but we're on the case. And the sleeve.

Good things we do

  • All our cardboard is from approved, managed and sustainable sources

  • All our outer cases use recycled cardboard

  • We’ve re-designed our frozen packs to use less packaging but still keep everything fresh and lovely

  • We’re proud to co-sign the WRAP Plastic Pact

You can recycle all Quorn*

  • Foil trays
  • Film bags
  • Clear trays
  • Cartons
  • Cardboard sleeves

You can't recycle (yet)

* Just check your local authority waste and recycling information

Reducing our environmental impact

We don’t start where everyone else does with protein production – and we’re proud about that. Rather than use animals, we use fermenters to grow and harvest the protein. This natural process makes our protein production much better for the environment, as it is more water efficient, produces less Greenhouse Gas Emissions, and takes less land.

Quorn is the first global meat-alternative brand to achieve third party certification of its carbon footprint figures, with over 50% of our products proudly achieving the Carbon Trust Footprint.

Carbon Trust - Reducing CO2

The Carbon Footprint of Quorn Mince is more than 90% lower than that of beef

In 2016 our sites’ Carbon Emissions from energy showed a reduction of 27% compared to our 2010 baseline

Per tonne of production

Sustainable Palm Oil

Palm oil is a versatile ingredient that’s good to use because it only needs half the land of other oil producing crops. But in some parts of the world, illegal and irresponsible palm oil practices are a clear driver of deforestation, social conflicts and human rights issues. This cannot be allowed to continue.

We are members and supporters of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)

We use only certified sustainable palm oil, and have done since 2014

We are 'leading the way' on the use of sustainable Palm Oil as classified by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF)

Protecting Water Resources

In many parts of the world, water is a scarce resource and under increasing pressure as the global population grows.

The water footprint of beef is 10x higher than that of Quorn Mince

The water footprint of chicken is 2.5x more than Quorn Pieces

In 2016 our site water use showed a reduction of 39% compared to our 2010 baseline

Love food hate waste

Love food, hate waste

Waste not, want not, Mum always used to say. So, we're making it an essential mission to do our bit for tackling food waste too:

  • We've joined WRAP's Courtauld 2025 initiative to reduce waste and emissions by one-fifth

  • We're working closely with WRAP to cut waste throughout our supply chain and in the home

Healthy Protein

All the exciting work we’re doing today, is to ensure we have a tomorrow. That’s our plan for the planet. We work within a number of organisations and communities, to educate on the many benefits of reducing meat consumption, for both the health of us and our families, as well as that of the planet.

By working with the Craft Guild of Chefs, we can ensure that the chefs of the future understand the importance of protein diversity, and that by cooking with ingredients that not only are delicious, but are kinder to our planet, everyone’s a winner.

I couldn’t think of a better partner to work with this dynamic, forward and global-thinking generation of chefs, than Quorn.
