Sustainable Nutrition

We like to look at things differently

At Quorn we look at things differently. We want to inspire people with delicious and irresistible recipes, packed full of flavour and bursting with new taste experiences from around the world. But we also want to do it by producing food that's better for us and better for the planet. It's all part of our vision for Sustainable Nutrition™

Packaging for the planet

We are working even harder to make sure our packaging can be recycled and turned into something else, and we're also cutting the amount of packaging we use. There's a bit more work to do, but we're on the case. And the sleeve.

Good things we do

  • All our cardboard is from approved, managed and sustainable sources

  • All our outer cases use recycled cardboard

  • We’ve re-designed our frozen packs to use less packaging but still keep everything fresh and lovely

You can recycle all Quorn*

  • Foil trays
  • Film bags
  • Clear trays
  • Cartons
  • Cardboard sleeves

You can't recycle (yet)

  • Deli trays
  • Black plastic trays
(We’re working on a way to phase these out)

* Just check your local authority waste and recycling information

Sustainable Palm Oil

Palm oil is a versatile ingredient that’s good to use because it only needs half the land of other oil producing crops. But in some parts of the world, illegal and irresponsible palm oil practices are a clear driver of deforestation, social conflicts and human rights issues. This cannot be allowed to continue.

We are members and supporters of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)

We use only sustainable palm oil, and have done since 2014

We are 'leading the way' on the use of sustainable Palm Oil as classified by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF)

Protecting Water Resources

In many parts of the world, water is a scarce resource and under increasing pressure as the global population grows.

The water footprint of beef is 8x higher than that of Quorn Mince

The water footprint of chicken is 2.5x more than Quorn Pieces

In 2016 our site water use showed a reduction of 39% compared to our 2010 baseline

Love food hate waste

Love food, hate waste

Waste not, want not, Mum always used to say. So, we're making it an essential mission to do our bit for tackling food waste too:

  • We've joined WRAP's Courtauld 2025 initiative to reduce waste and emissions by one-fifth

  • We're working closely with WRAP to cut waste throughout our supply chain and in the home

Quorn is the first global meat-alternative brand to achieve third party certification of its carbon footprint figures

Carbon Trust - Reducing CO2

The Carbon Footprint of Quorn Mince is more than 90% lower than that of beef

In 2016 our sites’ Carbon Emissions from energy showed a reduction of 27% compared to our 2010 baseline
