Great recipe, as long as you take out the parsnips. Parsnip dislikers unite! Swede is a good substitute

Such a delicious recipe, that if I try to vary my once-weekly meal for daughter’s family they plead for this cottage pie. Even though it works out at around half the price. Win/win. The parsnips-in-mash are a trade secret. And I hide some celery in there, and generally serve with fresh, steamed cauliflower.

Response from Quorn

We're glad you found the recipe delicious. Don't hesitate to try it again.

Great recipe. Never thought of adding parsnip to the mash but it’s such a great addition. Made this 4-5 times now and adjusted the recipe a bit each time. I now add 2 sticks of chopped celery in with the onions/carrot. I fry the Quorn at step 4 before adding the other ingredients to brown the edges a bit. I use about 230g of Quorn instead, but also add 80g (when dry) French green lentils (boil separately for 15-20 mins to soften) and 70g red lentils to further bulk out the mince (throw straight in when adding the stock along with the pre cooked, drained green). It adds a bit more consistency/thickness so no need for cornflour and the green lentils add a bit of crunch. Also gets me 2 more portions out of it. I don’t have Worcestershire sauce so to add a bit more flavour I use a level teaspoon of vegetarian beef gravy mix. Bit of butter in the mash too and extra milk. Overall great recipe, just added a few extra things to elevate it further. My partner isn’t vegetarian and isn’t a fan of meat replacements but absolutely loves this cottage pie! So much so the ones I freeze don’t stay in the freezer long!

Response from Quorn

We're glad both you and your partner enjoyed the recipe. We're quite impressed with the extra things you added. Keep it up!

Made this twice now lovely. Can this be frozen or just the filling be frozen at all .Filling great on top of jacket potatoes too .

Response from Quorn

We're glad you like it Bev! Yes, you can freeze our products once they have been cooked. As long as your meal is cold before freezing and all the other ingredients are suitable for freezing and reheating, you can keep it in the freezer for up to a month. When you're ready to enjoy, simply defrost fully in the fridge and then cook it within 24 hours, ensuring the food is piping hot throughout before serving.

Grandchildren’s absolute favourite. Great blend of flavourings. Can hide a few extra veggies in with the mince for little ones. The parsnip-potato-topping is just delicious.

Response from Quorn

It certainly is a favourite with everybody!

I didn't have Mince so I chopped Quorn chunks up. I used fresh vegetables and a few additional vegetables I had in the fridge (all finely chopped). Added some red lentils too (on the top of the veg mixture so they didn't stick). I put a Cartouche of greaseproof paper over the mix which 'sweated' the veg and gave it more depth as cooked in its own flavours. Although the mixture was a little paler in colour, than if using Quorn Mince, it didn't matter as tasted lovely. A little grated cheese on the topping added to the flavours. I will definitely be making again... with Quorn Mince next time!!

Response from Quorn

Love your creative twist with chopped Quorn and lentils, sounds delicious. Can't wait for your next round with Quorn Mince!

Not a vegetarian, but like to incorporate meat free meals into diet. I added some celery that needed using and changed out the parsnips for sweet potato as that is, what I had available! Very tasty meal, would recommend to try and will definitely nske again!

I decided to cook this today because I had a few carrots going soft and wanted to use them up. I'm pleased that I had some Quorn mince in my freezer to use. I didn't put any Worcester sauce which didn't seem to matter as it was absolutely delicious and I would definitely make it again. !!

Response from Quorn

The best recipe to make when you've got some vegetables to use!

Used HP sauce instead of Worcestershire and added a couple of mushrooms. So tasty. Never had mash with mashed parsnips it kept the mixture together added a knob of butter too and some parsley onto top to garnish. Yummy! I have another 3 days of dinner now as enough for 4.

Response from Quorn

Glad to hear you loved it!

We love this recipe! I use all potatoes for the topping (as I live in the US & parsnips aren't readily available) & also add 3 cloves of minced garlic to the softened onions. I add grated tasty cheddar to the top.

Second time I've followed this recipe , personally I omitted the milk , parsnips and salt . I did though add a clove of minced garlic . Used slightly reduced portions too as it was only for me .. A very good recipe for me . I've cooled mine too and put in in the fridge ready for my evening meal . Adapting it to your own taste is the key !

Really good, simple recipe. If you struggle to get hold of vegetarian Worcestershire sauce, a heaped teaspoon of Marmite is a great substitute.
